I valiantly defended the Empire and homeland from 1867 through the Great War. It took 22 Allied Nations to defeat the Empire and my staunchest ally, the
German
Empire, in 1918.  This currency, the Krone or Crown, which aptly carries my proud image, was backed in silver and was the coin of the realm until then, when it was replaced with the upstart Schilling.
What a glorious piece of currency it is! Exquisitely engraved in red and black, the front displays mirror image faces flanking the Imperial staff entwined by snakes, the royal seals of both Austria and Hungary and “One Crown” in the languages of both, and an ornate “DeutschOesterreich” (German Austria) overprint!
